Watch Love Icon

There are a few icons that enjoy mostly universal recognition from users. The icons for home, print, and the magnifying glass for search are such instances. Outside of these examples, most icons continue to be ambiguous to users due to their association with different meanings across various interfaces. This absence of a standard hurts the adoption of an icon over time, as users cannot rely on it having the same functionality every time it is encountered.

Watch Love Icon

Just last week, we reported our usability study of a website that employs a clock icon in its main navigation bar. While the graphic itself was easily recognizable as a clock, the meaning of the icon was completely obscure because it was a non-standard use of the concept of a clock or watch: the clock icon is used to symbolize navigation history and opens a drawer with the most recent pages that the user had visited. Not a single test participant clicked this icon. Obscure icon = wasted feature.

If you decide to include icons in your interface, do your research first! Familiarize yourself with icons used by your competitors and with icons commonly used on the platforms that you target, as those will be most recognizable to your users.

For more than half a century, walking through the Giant Heart has been a rite of passage for children in Philadelphia. With a dynamic human heartbeat emanating from within and a fresh, artistic spray of paint, now is the perfect time to revisit the newly-refreshed, beloved Giant Heart and the surrounding bioscience gallery. No visit to The Franklin Institute would be complete without visiting the icon that generations love with all their hearts!

They are indicators you are watching that item. If you click on "Watch Item" to the right of the heart, you'll be watching it and the heart gets filled in. Mine are blue - didn't get to pick the color. May have something to do with desktop background color or some setting in the browser.

As an experiment, I just put your calendar on my list, exited the site, and came back to my watch list and your calendar was not marked with a heart. So I have no clue how or why some have it and some don't. But I'd sure love to learn and to have a heart myself...

The question arises why is this heart icon/selection button only available on some listings and not others? This is a feature that benefits sellers, buyers and ultimately can increase sales for eBay. What do sellers have to do to be sure this is active on ALL our listings? Thank you.

Hi @nc-daydreamer, in post #4 it looks like all of the listings have the option to watch the item or indicate it is already being watched. If anyone has an example where they only see this on some listings and not others, I am happy to look into it further

That was my perception when I looked at this -- the open-heart icon means you can click "Watch" (just to the right) and the item would be added to your Watch List. When that happens, the heart is 'filled in' with color - in my case blue, indicating the listing is on my Watch List.

For a seller, we do know how many watchers we have, and we can send the Offers as well. So we don't need a heart in Seller Hub - the data column is available if you want to use it, or you can hide it if you'd rather not see it.

Here is a screenshot of a search results page -- it looks to me like the heart icon and watch link appear here except in some cases where the items are variation listings; which makes sense since you must choose one of the variations before you can watch one of those items.

If you come across a listing without the heart icon or watch link, check to see if that too is a variation listing. Lack of a watch link might be a good way to spot variation listings that have no price variation. [ @berserkerplanet might find this useful for the "no variations" filter to weed out those annoying $0.74 BIN women's boot listings]

Hi @eburtonlab, it looks like the listings without the Watch icon in search results are variations, but someone can go into the listing and select which variation they would like to add to their watch list.

Our question is who decided the icon should be on the search listing photos actually blocking some of the listing's main photo that a potential buyer is looking at before deciding to click on item for further info?

It just seems like one more thing that will discourage buyers from searching eBay by making a search harder. So now if you are doing a chronological search for say newest listings of a item not only do you have to deal with 'promoted' listings (listed up to 90 days ago) plugged in at different intervals in the middle of your chronological search now the search listing photos have icons partially blocking seller's main photo for that listing.

It appears they have moved the icon from under the price (to the right of search photo) to the photo itself? Under the price to the right of the search photo was a good place to put it not partially obscuring part of a seller's listing main photo. You would think they would make changes that would make a potential buyer's listing search quicker and easier instead of longer (having to move thru 'promoted' listings in a chronological search) and slower (if icon blocks something in search listing photo requiring potential buyer to now have to click into the listing to see complete photo).

You may occasionally see viewing restrictions while trying to watch certain programs, like sports events. Viewing restrictions are set by our content partners, such as sports leagues or network partners. They vary based on your current or home location, the content you're trying to watch, which platform or device you're watching on, and possibly other restrictions made by our partners. Affected programs will be unavailable in YouTube TV. If a restriction is in effect in your location, we'll do our best to let you know.

Some programs, like sports events, aren't available in certain geographic locations. These restrictions are set by content owners and vary based on your location, the program you're watching, and more. Affected programs will be designated with this icon .

If you're traveling, you may also be restricted in which live TV programs you can watch. You'll see this icon if a program you're recording is unavailable to watch live. Your recording will be available in your library after the live program ends. Learn about using YouTube TV while traveling.

The player's health is what keeps them alive on the island. Health is represented by the heart icon. Identifying problems with one's health is the key to survival. Taking damage will result in loss of health; a fully depleted health meter will result in death.

The player's level of hunger is represented by the ham shank icon. To regain calories, the player must consume any food items available; fish, coconuts and crabs, for example, can be found in abundance around the area. It is not advisable to eat raw food, as they will cause the survivor to become poisoned or ill.

The player's level of thirst is represented by the droplet icon. To re-hydrate, the player must drink any available fluids, such as distilled water, coconut milk or eat fruits like quwawa or kura.
